How to: Boiling an Egg

Ingredients:

  • Eggs
  • Water
  • Ice (optional for ice bath)

Instructions:

  1. Place eggs in a single layer at the bottom of a saucepan.
  2. Fill the saucepan with enough cold water to cover the eggs with a good 10cm of water – think at least half a finger on top of the eggs in depth
  3. Place the saucepan over medium-high heat and bring the water to a rolling boil

Now the fun part – how do you like your eggs? Set your timer from when the water comes to a boil

Boiling Time:

Soft-Boiled: Boil for 4-5 minutes.

Medium-Boiled: Boil for 7-8 minutes.

Hard-Boiled: Boil for 10-12 minutes

Remove the eggs from the boiling water. For hard-boiled eggs, transfer them to an ice bath to stop cooking and make peeling easier. Soft and medium boiled eggs are great for toast soldiers or dippy eggs as some may call them!

And if you’re wondering what those are – simple make a piece of toast, cut into fingers, place your egg into an egg cup, crack the top off and dip your toast “soldiers” into the soft egg and enjoy

Or

Peel and Serve: Gently tap the eggs on a hard surface, roll them to crack the shell, and peel under running water. Serve immediately or store in the refrigerator
